Researchers Discovered that Eye Pressure (IOP) Rises in Patients Wearing Scleral Lenses

Researchers in a number of clinical studies found out that Intraocular Pressure (IOP) rises substantially (5-7mmHg) in patients wearing scleral lenses. These finding raised a concern that patients wearing sclerals might be at risk for blindness due to glaucoma or other eye conditions that may result from a long term lens wear.
These studies were possible due to the innovative tonometry technology by Diaton tonometer where the device allows to measure IOP through the upper eyelid and more importantly via sclera, right above the edge of the scleral or the contact lens.
