DIATON Tonometer at the American Academy of Ophthalmology AAO Meeting in New Orleans

November 10, 2017 @ 8:00 am - November 15, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

Team Diaton Tonometer presents its innovative, “through the eyelid” and sclera glaucoma diagnostic tonometry technology at the American Academy of Ophthalmology AAO 2017 meeting in New Orleans, LA.  Ophthalmologists find new ways to implement this non-invasive, cornea independent tonometry technology in cases where no other corneal tonometry devices can get an accurate intraocular pressure (IOP) results. Diaton obtains the IOP measurement through the upper eyelid, overlaying tarsus and sclera, not via the cornea – making the technology unique and independent of corneal biomechanics.

Diaton Tonometer to be presented at 3 exhibits:

  1. SonomedEscalon Exhibit #1001
  2. Optimetrics Inc Exhibit #317
  3. Enhanced Medical Services (EMS) Exhibit #2102

Non-corneal Diaton tonometer is particularly useful in cases where standard direct applanation (corneal) tonometry is difficult or not viable, such as with pediatric patients, in presence of certain corneal pathology, edema, infection, following corneal surgery, KPro and in cases of eye trauma.

Emil W. Chynn, MD, FASC from Park Avenue LASEK stated, – “As a Cornea-Refractive trained specialist, I encounter many situations where Goldmann readings are inherently inaccurate–like post-LASIK, in cases of corneal edema, scarring, keratoconus, post-keratoprosthesis or transplant. In such cases, it’s both invaluable and reassuring to have the Diaton device available to measure IOP that’s independent of corneal pathology”

“It works,” said Dr. Mark Latina, glaucoma specialist (Harvard / MEEI) and the inventor of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), after revealing results of the study titled: “Accuracy of Transpalpebral Tonometer Diaton Compared to Goldmann Applanation Tonometer in Normal and Glaucomatous Eyes”.

Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM Inc., added – “We’re at Diaton are humble to get such an overwhelming support from the ophthalmic community and are eager to learn from the community of the newly found applications of our transpalpebral and transscleral technology, where cornea is not a factor”.
